Sciaenochromis Fryeri - Iceberg, Electric Blue Ahli
Sciaenochromis Fryeri – Iceberg, Electric Blue Hap Ahli, Unsexed, Farm raised,
Average Adult Fish Size: 6-7”
Place of Origin: Maleri Island, Lake Malawi
Feeding: mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, krill, High Quality Flake, High Quality Pellets
Temperament: Mildly Aggressive, Conspecific Aggressive
The Ahli is known for their electric blue metallic coloring and brilliant white blaze that stretches from lips to dorsal fin. The Iceberg variant has a larger white blaze that extends down the sides of the fish to the tail. Juveniles will begin to color around 2-3”, with full color in the 4-5" range.
They are fish eaters, often specializing in hunting Utaka or mbuna juveniles in the wild and will readily eat any smaller fish that they can fit into their mouths. They are quite robust in the aquarium. The ahli ranks among the best looking of all Rift Lake cichlids and makes a worthy addition to almost any tank.
By cichlid standards the electric blue hap generally falls somewhere in the middle of the aggression spectrum; individuals are neither pushovers nor belligerents when maintained with appropriate tankmates. Other Malawi cichlids that are similar in size and temperament are appropriate choices.
At the same time, avoid hyper-aggressive species and species that get much larger, as they could potentially bully S. fryeri. Male S. fryeri look best when they are one of the dominant fish of the aquarium.
