There are no noticeable differences between the sexes when small. In the wild, Electric Yellow Cichlids are omnivores, feeding on small aquatic invertebrates. To maintain their bright colors they should be given a variety of commercial foods including frozen foods and spirulina or chlorella flakes.

All Labidochromis interbreed regardless of color – the vivid coloration of the aquarium Yellow Lab is the result of line breeding.
