Insignus Haps are beautiful fish that are great for beginners and experts. They are found throughout lake Malawi. They are typically found in the sediment free area primarily feeding on algae and other plant material. They will need rockwork to explore as well as open swimming areas.
The dominant male shows a blue head and upper body with darker vertical bars and a brilliant yellow lower body. Females and juveniles are a drab gray-brown with black horizontal striping. These colorful Protomelas are often confused with the Peacock cichlids from genus Aulonocara.
