The Aulonocara Jacobfreibergi is nicknamed the African Butterfly Peacock. There are several variants of this popular Aulonocara species in the hobby. Not as peaceful as other Aulonocara as males tend to react aggressively towards other fish with a similar color pattern. Males of this spectacular species differ from most other Peacocks in their genus, having and iridescent white dorsal and caudal fin margins.
The captive diet should contain a variety of high quality, fine-grade prepared foods plus small live and/or frozen foods. Some of the dried products should contain a high proportion of vegetable matter such as Spirulina or Chlorella. Rather than a single large meal, offer 2-3 smaller portions daily to mimic natural browsing behavior.
As with nearly all peacocks - the females are a drab olive brown in color.
